We’re demonstrating for a better Student Services Organization! #
Key Information: #
- Meeting point in the courtyard of the University of Applied Sciences
- March from the University of Applied Sciences along Emil-Figge-Straße 50 to the main cafeteria
- Throughout the day: An SDS information booth on the Student Services Organization, housing in Dortmund, and ways you can get involved!
We asked questions! #
You can find the Studierendenwerk’s answers here in this document Questions for the Studierendenwerk
Our demands to the Studierendenwerk #
- Full transparency regarding the breakdown and reduction of rent! Over the past 10 years, rent has nearly doubled from approximately €220 to an average of €380. This cannot be explained solely by the approximately €150 in utility costs per person that the Studierendenwerk charges us. The BaFöG housing allowance is €380!
- Better communication with students
- Improved processing of BaFöG applications
- Far too often, students wait several months for their BaFöG applications to be processed and approved. Time during which they simply have no money!
Our demands to the State of North Rhine-Westphalia #
-
A better BaFöG with less bureaucracy – BaFöG independent of parental income!
-
Funding for the student services organizations
- Today’s student services organizations receive the same amount of money from the state as they did in 1990! With inflation, this amounts to a story of drastic cuts
-
Preserving students’ rights to co-determination within the Studierendenwerk.
- These rights are currently under threat at the state level; a draft bill for the Studierendenwerk Act proposes that seats on the administrative board be filled by external consultants from the business and public sectors, where students currently play a key role in decision-making.
What are your demands? #
What is your day-to-day experience with the Student Services Organization like? What are some issues we may not have even considered? Feel free to reach out to us with your concerns; we’ll compile them in a follow-up article after our demonstration.
